The Cultural Capital of Karnataka

Back to attractions

An Indo-Saracenic masterpiece with stained glass, mirrored halls and 97,000 electric bulbs illuminating it every Sunday.

The Mysore Palace, or Amba Vilas Palace, is the seat of the former Wodeyar dynasty and one of India's most spectacular royal residences. Built in 1912 in Indo-Saracenic style, it blends Hindu, Muslim, Rajput, and Gothic architectural elements. Inside, discover the Kalyana Mantapa marriage pavilion with its peacock motifs, the Dolls Pavilion, the armory, and the carved mahogany doors. Every Sunday evening and during Dussehra, the palace is illuminated with 97,000 bulbs, creating a breathtaking sight. The palace museum houses royal paintings, jewellery, and artifacts from the Wodeyar era.
